Overview

A deputy with the Walker County Sheriff's Office was on duty in uniform driving a marked patrol unit. He observed a vehicle traveling on a state highway without its headlights on when required by law. The Deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the violator by activating his siren and emergency lights. The violator intentionally failed to stop placing other motoris as well as the deputy at great risk of serious injury. At one point the violator pulled the vehicle onto the side of the roadway. The deputy exited his patrol unit and began giving verbal commands for the violator to stop. The violator reentered the roadway striking the patrol unit with the violator's vehicle at a point close to where the deptuy was standing. Based on the violator's behavior and danger he posed to other motorist as well as placing the deputy in fear for his life. The deputy discharged his weapon into the vehicle striking the driver. Emergency medical personnel arrived on scene. However, could not locate a pulse. Walker County Justice of the Peace conducted an inquest and ordered an autopsy be performed by the Montgomery County Forensic center.
