Overview

The person shot and killed by Milwaukee police after he allegedly tried to carjack a vehicle at gunpoint has been identified.

Police said Tuesday the suspect was 17-year-old Shawn M. Rieves. He was killed Monday inside a rarely used bus transit center in Milwaukee's downtown business district.

Investigators hoped to review surveillance video from the transit center, but the video system wasn't in operation at the time.

Police say Rieves was armed with a semi-automatic handgun when he tried to force his way into a vehicle Monday about 7 a.m. As the driver fled, Rieves fired one shot that missed.
