The man shot and killed by Boston police officers after he allegedly opened fire on them on early Sunday was identified by a law enforcement source today as a 38-year-old Dorchester resident.
The death of Ross Baptista is under investigation by Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office. In a statement Sunday, Conley promised “a full and impartial investigation’’ into the use of deadly force by Boston police.
The Globe reported today that Baptista was shot around 2 a.m. Sunday after he allegedly opened fire on officers from Area B-3 who were on Willowwood Street to investigate reports of shots being fired in the neighborhood on the Mattapan/Dorchester line.
A man sitting in a vehicle opened fire on the officers, who fired back in response, fatally wounding Baptista, police said in a statement.
