A man was killed Tuesday night in an officer-involved shooting in south Bakersfield.
Earlier in the day, two businesses -- a grocery and a recycling center -- were robbed. Police said they gathered information leading them to believe the same people, armed with guns, were responsible.
Just after 9 p.m., officers found what they thought to be the robbery suspects inside a Jeep SUV in the area of Taft Highway and South Union Avenue. Police said they tried to conduct a traffic stop on the SUV, but the suspects led them on a short chase.
The pursuit ended with the suspects crashing into a tree on nearby Hudson Drive.
Police said a gun was found when they searched the SUV.
The officer who shot his gun will be placed on routine administrative leave during an investigation. Police didn't release that officer's name.
