Overview

The Greenville County Coroner's Office said a suspect shot by a Greenville County deputy more than two weeks ago has died.

On May 2, deputies responded to a suspicious person waving a handgun near the Walmart store on Wade Hampton Boulevard. Sheriff Steve Loftis said 52-year-old Reginald Darnell Dogan began walking toward a responding deputy with the gun in his hand.

Loftis said after repeatedly being asked to lower the weapon, Dogan pointed the gun at deputies.

A Greenville County deputy reportedly fired once, striking Dogan. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Coroner Parks Evans said on Wednesday Dogan was pronounced dead at 2:35 p.m.

His cause and manner of death are pending.
