Overview

A man was fatally shot by an Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy after he allegedly brandished a knife Saturday afternoon on Spencer Loop, according to the Louisiana State Police.

State Police Master Trooper Brooks David said the LSP was notified of the fatal shooting at 4:20 p.m. by the IPSO and subsequently took over the investigation from the IPSO. David said it was an officer involved shooting but the deputy was unharmed.

All other details are being investigated by State Police, David said.

According to several witnesses at the season, the confrontation began after a domestic dispute on Spencer Loop near Shot Street. After an IPSO deputy arrived, the man, reportedly known as “Po,” brandished the knife at the deputy, they said.

A woman who had her head bandaged was taken away from the scene by ambulance.

Several people in the neighborhood described the victim as a frail man who kept to himself.

Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal said the deputy is still on active duty
