Overview 
71 year-old Pedro Montanez was shot and killed by an Indio, California police officer. The shooting happened outside Rancho Fresco Market at Jackson Street and Dillon Avenue. Officers were called to the scene about 9:15 p.m. after being notified that a man was threatening people with a knife, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
