Overview

25 year old Paul Jones was shot and killed by police in Salisbury after a bank robbery and car chase that ended in a crash, according to police. Two others were also injured in the incident.

Just after 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, Salisbury police were notified of an armed robbery at a Wells Fargo bank at 866 W. Jake Alexander Blvd.

Police said the suspect, Jones, shot one person inside of the bank as the robbery was taking place. That victim has been taken to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries are unknown.

The suspect then ran out of the bank into the parking lot where he shot and stole a car from a bystander. This victim was also transported to the hospital with injuries.

As officers en route to the scene were notified of the car's description and that the suspect was in the area driving it, a vehicle matching the same description was later seen speeding near Brenner Ave., Lincolnton and S. Fulton St., and back towards the scene of the crime. Salisbury police began following the vehicle, which turned into a chase.

The pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle crashed on Jake Alexander Blvd. Police said Jones exited the car with a gun.

It's unclear if he fired shots at police, but multiple officers discharged their firearms, hitting Jones. He was pronounced dead on scene.
