36 year-old Omar Gonzalez was killed when a police chase in City Terrace ended in a deadly officer-involved shooting Thursday evening, July 28, 2016 according to officials.
The Los Angeles Police Department said the chase began in City Terrace, near Boyle Heights, and ended in the 1200 block of Atwood Place.
Video sent to ABC7 showed a small white car leading police on a chase up a hill and around a turn. At least three patrol cars could be seen following the vehicle.
A woman driving the vehicle was on her cellphone during the chase and a male passenger, believed to be in his 30s, was with her, according to officials.
Police said when the car stopped at the end of Atwood Place, which was a cul-de-sac, the man got out of the car.
That's when officers said they opened fire on the man.
"Some citizens had advised the officers that the suspect was armed with a handgun," Sgt. Frank Preciado with the LAPD said.
The man was taken from the scene and later died at the hospital, according to police.
An LA jury took less than 24 hours to reject the wrongful death claims of a man killed by LAPD. The civil lawsuit needed a minimum of nine jurors to rule that the killer cop used excessive force in killing victim Omar González. However, all 12 jurors rejected the claim and ruled that police did not use negligence nor excessive force.
Why do the police shoot someone three times? Would he not have fallen or been able to catch if he was just shot once?
