Overview

Five months after a mentally ill and suicidal man was shot and killed in his family’s Fort Bend County home by a Sheriff’s Office deputy, a clandestine video has been released showing 26-year-old Michael Garrett Blair tazed repeatedly over the course of several minutes, then shot 11 times.

Several generations of Blair’s family, along with community activist Quanell X and others, held a press conference in downtown Houston Wednesday, May 7, where the 20-minute tape was given to the media before it was given to U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson’s office, which represents Texas’ Southern District.

On Nov. 4, 2013, Blair, a paranoid schizophrenic, was threatening to commit suicide and was locked in the bathroom of his family’s Richmond home, located in the 7000 block of Dawn Bloom near FM 2977. His family had called mental health hospitals asking for assistance, who told them to call 911. Quanell X, speaking for the family, said they did so reluctantly.
