Overview 
39-year-old Mark Daniels was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Pittsburgh's Homewood South neighborhood early Sunday morning, February 11, 2018.
The shooting happened near the corner of Brushton Avenue and Bennett Street.
Law enforcement had still not released the victim's name by 11:30 p.m. Sunday, nearly 24 hours after the shooting.
Sequaha Jeffries said her brother was a father of two girls, 19 and 13, and had recently become a grandfather.
She said he had recently accepted a new construction job in Ambridge and celebrated his 39th birthday in early February.
Jeffries said that while her brother was on parole, things were going very well for him and that he had a lot of positive outcomes in recent weeks.
Accounts of the shooting differ between police agencies.
According to the Pittsburgh Police Department, their officers were "on neighborhood patrol" at 1:27 a.m. and were "alerted to an actor with a gun" in Homewood South.
But according to the Allegheny County Police Department Homicide Unit, which is now investigating the officer-involved shooting, "at approximately 1:19 a.m." two Pittsburgh police officers "were on patrol when they encountered a male acting suspiciously" in Homewood South.
Both police agencies said the man fired a gun at the officers and that one officer returned fire, striking the man, who then fled.
“I do not believe that. I do not believe that’s what occurred," Jeffries said.
Both police agencies said the man was chased and found before being transported to a hospital where he later died. They said the officers were both uninjured.
Neither agency said whether a gun was found at the scene or nearby nor had either agency released the names of the officers as of 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
Legal Action
In April 2018, District Attorney Zappala, following more than a month of investigation by district attorney's detectives and Allegheny County Police, ruled that officers had cause to fire at Daniels.
