Overview

Manuel Soriano, 29 and homeless was killed according to police after striking and injuring officers.

Officers from the Van Nuys Community Police Station responded to a report of a neighbor dispute in the 14600 block of Valerio Street about 11:40 p.m. Thursday. When officers arrived, they met with a person who directed them to the house next door, said LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman, a spokeswoman. Officers found the suspect at the residence and “a physical altercation ensued,” she said. The suspect then armed himself with “an unknown hard object” and began striking the officers in the head and shoulder area with it, which prompted the officer-involved shooting, she said.

Legal Action

September 2017 The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office determined that the Los Angeles police officer acted in self-defense when he killed Soriano.
