Overview

Lawrence Lynel Blackburn a Morgan City man wanted in a shooting death in Lafayette, died of gunshot wounds July 29, 2015 night at a Baton Rouge apartment. Blackburn, 37, died at the 4271 W. Brookstown Drive apartment shortly before 10:15 p.m., Baton Rouge Police spokesman Lt. L’Jean McKneely said. U.S. Marshals had received a tip that Blackburn was in the Baton Rouge area, McKneely said. Once they began searching the area, they were told he was in the apartment. Residents in the Baton Rouge neighborhood indicated Blackburn had relatives living at the apartment. At least 25 police cars responded, including those of Baton Rouge Police, the U.S. Marshals Task Force, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney Hillar Moore III. Helmeted officers armed with high-powered weapons were on the scene.
