Overview

Police shot and killed a man Tuesday after he led officers on a car chase through the city, police said.

Antioch police Capt. Leonard Orman said the man began to lead police on a chase around 4:45 p.m. after he brandished a gun. Orman would not say if the man had brandished the weapon at a police officer or if he had committed any other crime.

Police did not immediately identify the suspect.

Police followed the suspect, who was driving a silver Mercedes northbound along Hillcrest Avenue before he lost control of his car and crashed between Deer Valley Road and Wildflower Drive. The suspect began to flee, Orman said, and multiple officers opened fire.

Jessika Green said her 11-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter were riding in a car with their stepmother when they came upon the shooting. One bullet struck the driver side door, causing the window to shatter, but it became lodged in the door and did not hit anyone, Green said.

"It's hard not to think of what if?" she said. "My son, he's a thinker, he's a worrier, so I know that's going through his head.

"It scared me," she continued. "It doesn't make me want to continue to raise my children in this. They are scared."
