Overview

Juan Briseno-Ortega was killed by Yakima police when they responded to a domestic disturbance in the 2100 block of South 68th Avenue just after 5 p.m. on June 10, 2016.  Once there, they found two men arguing in a detached garage. Briseno-Ortega pulled out a handgun when officers arrived, according to a YPD spokesperson. Authorities said a Yakima police officer shot Briseno-Ortega, who died at the scene.

Legal Action

In a 52-page report, Yakima police investigators concluded that Officer Brad Althauser’s shooting of J. Juan Briseno-Ortega was justified. Police are recommending that no criminal charges be filed against the officer involved. Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney Joe Brusic is reviewing the report to determine if charges are warranted.
