Overview

A man who exchanged fire with a Payette County Sheriff's deputy Thursday has died.
Payette County Sheriff Chad Huff said this morning that Jose M. Rodriguez-Moncada died Thursday night.
Rodriguez-Moncada and Cpl. Jason Jones exchanged fire outside Maverick Country Store in Payette at about 2:15 p.m. Thursday. Both men fired several shots, and both were injured. They were taken by Life Flight to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Payette Police Chief Mark Clark said.
Jones, who has worked for the Sheriff's Office for 15 years, was struck in lower leg, Huff said. He was treated at the Boise hospital and released Thursday.
Rodriguez-Moncada was struck twice in the torso, Huff said. The 24-year-old Fruitland man was in critical condition when he was taken to Boise and did not survive his injuries.
