Overview

According to Tulare police, 27-year-old Jontell Reedom was killed by police durng an attempted arrest. Officers said they responded to the 600 block of North Cherry Street after reports of Reedom attacking a school bus driver around 4:30 P.M. Police say two officers tried to arrest Reedom but he slipped away. Officers deployed a taser but it was unsuccessful before a fist fight ensued with the suspect. After chasing Reedom and struggling to apprehend him, police say shots were fired. Both officers were put on paid administrative leave as the Tulare County Sheriff's Office investigated the case.

Legal Action

In August 2018, lawyers for Reedom's mother, Anyka Harris filed a federal lawsuit against the city of Tulare and members of its police department, asking for damages related to his death as well as funeral and burial costs.
