Overview

A sheriff's deputy fatally shot an alleged prowler who was possibly unarmed in Hawaiian Gardens, officials said Monday.

A 911 caller reported a man was knocking on his or her door and attempting to get inside the house, located in the 12200 block of 216th Street (map), around 9:40 p.m. Sunday, the Los Angles County Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release.

Responding sheriff’s deputies searched the premises and located the alleged prowler in the backyard.

One of the deputies, a training officer, shot the man.

Details about what led up to the shooting were not provided and a weapon was not located.
