The Chelan County coroner says a man who died in jail in June died as a result of excited delirium with heart disease as a contributing factor.
The report on the death of Jesse Avina Morales was made public Tuesday at the request of The Wenatchee World.
Police Sgt. Jim West said the jail staff did everything it could to help Morales and detectives found nothing criminal.
The coroner’s report says jail staffers contacted the 21-year-old Wenatchee man because he was “yelling about lions eating him” and bouncing off the walls of his cell like a pinball. He stopped breathing after a 16-minute struggle.
Toxicology tests found no drugs in his system.
Morales had been jailed two days earlier for violating a domestic violence no-contact order.
