Overview

A Central Texas man was shot and killed by officers Saturday afternoon when he pointed a shotgun at them as a police pursuit from Cameron ended in Temple.

People picnicking at Bob Jones Park near downtown Temple ran for cover and ducked, shielding children with their bodies as officers fired at the man.

“I was worried when the shooting began,” Temple resident Paula Castillo said. “There were kids out here. We ran and covered the kids so they wouldn’t get shot.”

No one was injured at the park, Temple Police said.

Relatives who later arrived as the scene identified the dead man as Jeremiah “Jeremy” Richard Ramirez.
