Overview

The Austin Police Department released the name of the man killed and the officer involved in a northeast shooting on Tuesday.

Jason Sebastian Roque, 20, died at the hospital after being shot by a police officer following a domestic dispute with his mother. Roque was waving a gun around when police arrived at a home on the 11300 block of Long Winter Drive, according to Chief Brian Manley.

Manley said that Roque was acting aggressively towards his mother and threating to shoot himself.

Roque was shot by Officer James Harvel. Harvel has been with the department for 17 years. He is currently on paid administrative leave.

The case is being investigated by APD's internal affairs.
