Overview

Police say a Ceres off-duty officer shot and killed a man at a Modesto park on Sunday night. The incident happened around 10:20 p.m. in Modesto’s Beyer Park. Thomas Miller and a woman were walking in the park when a man identified as 29-year-old Jason Moland walked up and got into a confrontation with Miller. He allegedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at Miller who then pulled out his own gun and shot Moland, according to a Modesto Police Department statement.

Legal Action

According to a letter release by the District Attorney on Friday April 29, 2016, the former Ceres police officer who fatally shot Moland, whose wife he was with in a Modesto park late at night has been cleared of any legal wrongdoing.
