Hagerstown Police say a man who suffered cardiac arrest after officers restrained him has died.
Police said Tuesday that they were notified that 34-year-old James Edward Adell of Hagerstown had died at Meritus Medical Center, where he had been taken after Sunday's incident.
Authorities say officers were called to Jefferson street about 8 p.m. Sunday for reports of a man running through yards saying people were chasing him.
Police say officers put Adell in handcuffs and he became combative. Police say officers restrained the man on the ground until paramedics arrived.
Officers say Adell continued to be combative and officers continued to restrain him. Authorities say Adell went into cardiac arrest and emergency responders applied life-saving techniques until he was taken to the hospital.
