Overview

The shootings in Monroe Wednesday night that left two men dead, including the homicide suspect later shot by deputies, might have stemmed from an argument among three acquaintances, Monroe police said.

Monroe Police Chief Frederick Kelley said early Thursday there was no further danger to the public in the incident that started at a trailer at 720 17th St. on the city's Near West Side and ended with Green County sheriff's deputies shooting the homicide suspect about eight blocks away from the first shooting.

The unidentified suspect, who was seen on a city street covered in blood about 20 minutes after police were called to the homicide scene, died at Monroe Clinic Hospital after multiple shots were fired at him, police said.
