A LaPlace man who was being arrested in a family disturbance died after being subdued by St. John the Baptist Parish sheriff's deputies, according to L'Observateur newspaper. He was identified as Ennis Labaux, 37.

State Police said Labaux grew combative while being questioned Saturday morning at 243 Belle Terre Blvd. in LaPlace. Deputies handcuffed him but he continued to struggle and eventually stopped breathing, State Police said. He was pronounced dead at River Parishes Hospital.
