Overview

Georgia Bureau of Investigation officials identified Monday the man who died after a Cobb Police officer used a Taser on him following an early Friday crash in Marietta.

The man, identified as Devin Howell, allegedly got into an “altercation” with Cobb officers after the crash, which the GBI and Cobb Police previously said happened about 12:45 a.m. Friday. The agencies said he had been driving a white Dodge Caravan at a high rate of speed while heading westbound on Roswell Road, and as his vehicle entered the southbound ramp to South Marietta Parkway, struck the back of another vehicle in the curve.

When Cobb officers came into contact with him, he became combative and fought with them, with one officer using a Taser on him, according to the GBI. He became unresponsive, according to GBI spokesperson Nelly Miles, and was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
