Overview

Three Beloit police officers have been cleared of any wrongdoing in the shooting death of Darrius Lowery Baptiste last month.

The Rock County District Attorney’s Office ruled that Sergeant Dan Tilley and officers Brian Miller and Seth Hendricks’ use of deadly force was both legal and appropriate. Sergeant Tilley and Officer Miller boxed in Baptiste.

He was wanted on a warrant and for questioning in a recent shooting. Baptiste refused to get out of the car. While police were trying to break the windows of the car, Baptiste was able to push Tilley’s car out of the way enough to make a run at the sergeant. That’s when he was shot a number of times.
