According to police, Darick Napper, 34, was shot after he charged at a sixth-district officer with a large hunting knife. The officer fired once at Napper and hit him. Napper was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
On June 24, 2016, federal prosecutors indicated that they would not pursue charges against the officers in this case. Prosecutors said they found insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the officer used excessive force under the circumstances.
