Overview

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating after a suspect, who police say was intoxicated, died at a hospital after being stunned by officers during his arrest.

Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown tells local news outlets that 26-year-old Benston Calvin Clinkscales died early Sunday at AnMed Health after being arrested.

Anderson Police Lt. David Creamer says officers responded to a domestic disturbance Saturday evening.

When officers arrived, Clinkscales had fallen through a glass window and was bleeding from several cuts to his arm. McCown says Clinkscales was "extremely intoxicated," belligerent and scuffled with officers before they used a stun gun.

Clinkscales died shortly before 1 a.m.
