Overview 
The relative was rushed to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital for immediate surgery, and his condition was "stable" as of Saturday morning, said Lt. Yvette Borden, spokeswoman for the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office.
The deputy went to the park at 4740 Barham Ave. after receiving reports of a domestic violence case about 6:30 p.m., she said. The deputy arrived to find the suspect stabbing his male relative in the upper torso with a knife outside their mobile home, she said.
The deputy shot the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene, an undetermined number of times, Borden said. She didn’t know how many times the victim had been stabbed.
Borden didn’t know what led to the man attacking his relative.
The victim was rushed to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Red Bluff and was still in surgery as of 8:45 p.m., she said. She did not know his condition.
The deputy wasn’t injured, she said. Another family member was involved in an unknown manner, she said.
California Highway Patrol and Corning police officers responded to help sheriff’s investigators, she said. The Tehama County District Attorney’s Office, and possibly the Department of Justice, will investigate the officer-involved shooting. Sheriff’s detectives will investigate the stabbing, she said.
Borden did not have the identity of the suspect, victim or involved deputy. A second deputy was at scene at the time, though she didn’t know whether the deputy arrived before or after the shooting.
The area doesn’t experience a larger amount of crime than is typical in Tehama County, Borden said.
“We don’t respond to this mobile home park any more than anywhere else,” she said.
The last shooting involving the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office occurred in 2008, according to the Record Searchlight’s archives.
