Overview

An Arlington police officer is on administrative leave with pay following a fatal shooting early this morning outside a nightclub.

According to police, just after 1 Thursday morning an officer with the Traffic Unit was on routine patrol when he pulled into the parking lot at 2400 E. Arkansas Lane, just off State Highway 360. Police say the officer was flagged down by an armed security guard who needed help dealing with a disturbance at the Star Saigon Bar and Grill, which had spilled into the parking lot. At the same time, police say, they received a 911 call concerning a fight at that very location involving more than 20 people — most or perhaps even all of whom may have arrived together, according to KTVT-Channel 11.

Sgt. Christopher Cook, an Arlington police spokesman, says in a release that when the officer got out of his car, he “saw a man discharging a firearm at the direction of a crowd of people, which led to a confrontation between this armed man and the officer.” At that point, the officer fired his weapon at the man, who would eventually be pronounced dead at the scene. The officer wasn’t hurt, and police say they have no reports of anyone else being injured, though they are checking hospitals to be sure.An Arlington police officer is on administrative leave with pay following a fatal shooting early this morning outside a nightclub.
